Preparing and Tagging your items

Once you've printed your tags, it's time to get to work tagging your items!

**The rule of thumb for preparing your items for the sale is to remember that we are a fast paced sale with hundreds of shoppers excited to grab the best deals! It is your responsibility to prepare your items in a way that will protect them while making them shoppable. These shoppers include excited kids and some distracted grown ups not always watching where they are going.

-Some items that take a lot of space, including playmats, nursing pillows, some bedding and mattresses, will be placed on a plastic sheet on the floor. The floor of the armory can be dirty and it is your responsibility to make sure your items are adequately protected. While we always do our best to protect your items, items not covered may get dirty at the sale. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need ideas for best protecting your items!

-Items that are easily breakable or uncleanable may not be right for our sale. While welcome, please bring them understanding that we are not able to keep close eyes on every single item so you need to decide if our sale is the right venue for your item.

-The best way to protect our sellers' items is by having enough volunteers available to properly cover the sale. Please consider volunteering!

Supplies you'll need:

  • Hangers - read FAQ's for suggestions where to get hangers. Wire hangers are preferred but not required. Hangers will not be returned, they will be sold with the item.

  • Safety pins (absolutely no straight pins - these are too hard on volunteers' hands at checkout)

  • White or light-colored cardstock for printing your price tags

  • Ziploc bags

  • Clear packing tape- no scotch tape, it will not stick!

  • Rubber bands - for wrapping around tops of hangers to group clothing items by size for drop off

  • Zip ties (optional) - can be bought very inexpensively at Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc.

  • Tagging gun (optional) - with long barbs (not the short, red barbs used for quilting - they won't hold). If using a tagging gun, please first review the instructions here to avoid damaging items. Items tagged improperly with a tagging gun may be pulled from the floor and subject to the quality fee.

  • Hole punch (optional) - some sellers like to punch a hole in the tag before attaching it with a safety pin to the clothing

Clothing and Shoes:

We recommend that you hang most of your clothing items, but it is ultimately up to you to decide how many and which of your items you bag or hang. The one exception is that all pajamas over size 18 months must be bagged due to limited rack space

Hanging clothing items:

  • Hang so that the hook of the hanger faces to the left, like a question mark (when looking at the garment).

  • Pin tag to the RIGHT hand side of garment as you look at it.

  • For 2 piece outfits, PIN the pants or skirt to the back of the shirt, including the hanger in the pin. This creates a more appealing display of the item and also prevents items from being ripped during shopping.

  • For pants, pin through the top of the hanger, through both layers of pants below the waistband. These will keep them from sliding.

  • The hanger is sold with the garment - price accordingly.

  • Pin matching hats, bibs, socks, etc. securely to the item or put in a bag and attach.

Bagging clothing items:

  • Be sure items fit in the bag with it still being able to be easily sealed. You may bag multiple items together as long as they are selling under the same tag. Items that are being sold together must be of the same size.

  • Tape tag to the OUTSIDE of the bag with packing tape.

  • Please do not tape bags closed. Shoppers often want to take the items out to inspect. You also may choose to pin the items together and to the bag itself to avoid them getting separated if they're removed from the bag.

Shoes:

Shoes must be secured together. You can use zipties or safety pins, or place them both in a zip seal bag. Secure the tag well.

Toys, Books, DVDs, etc.

  • When taping tags to zip deal bags, use a piece of packing tape across the tag. Always tape on the outside of the bag, they don't scan through the bag!

  • Individual Items: Place sale tag securely on item with tape. Any accompanying small parts can be put in a bag, sealed with tape, and taped to the item. Be aware of any items that may be damaged by the tag being taped directly to the item and consider bagging these items to avoid damage. Painters tape (placed on tag to avoid obscuring numbers and barcode) may be used on more delicate items.

  • Multiple items: (books, DVDs, toys, etc) To sell items in sets, place in zip seal bags, seal the top with tape and secure the tag to the OUTSIDE of bag with tape. It's recommended that you group items together that are intended for  the same age/interest level to increase the chance of selling.

Furniture and Equipment: We highly recommend these items be displayed assembled and fully set up, those unassembled are very unlikely to sell. Any small pieces can be put in a zip seal bag and pinned or taped securely to the item.

Cribs: We do not accept any drop side cribs for consignment. For each crib, download and complete our crib safety checklist and bring to drop off.

Car Seats and car seat bases: For each car seat, download and complete our car seat checklist and bring it with you! Little Britches will not accept car seats that:

  • Have expired or will expire within a year of the sale - check the date of manufacture. Even if you've only had it a few years, it may  have expired.

  • Are recalled - check www.cpsc.gov to confirm yours has no recalls. Car seat recalls can be check for at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/childseat.cfm

  • Have been in an accident - even a minor one

  • Do not have all components

  • Do not have the manufacturer's label attached

  • Have not been properly cleaned for the sale

Quality Policy:

We appreciate your hard work in making sure you are only bringing your best items, well prepared for the sale. We understand that damage can be overlooked here and there, it happens to all of us! However, excessive items that are damaged or otherwise unacceptable for the sale create extra work for our amazing volunteers and can be frustrating to our shoppers.

  •  A $15 fee will be withheld from seller's profit check if more than 5 items have to be removed from the sales floor because they are stained, have handwritten tags, are damaged, improperly prepared, unaccepted items, or recalled.

  • A fee between $3-$5 will be withheld from seller's profit check for every item that must be cleaned before it can be put on the sales floor. Stained clothing will not be cleaned but will be pulled from the sales floor.

  • Consignors who consistently bring unacceptable items may be prohibited from participating in future sales.

Advertising: In fairness to our paying vendors and advertisers, we cannot allow any sellers to advertise their business on consigned items. There can be no business information attached to items or their hangers. All items from a seller who has advertised on their items will be immediately pulled from the sales floor and the seller will not be allowed to register as a seller for future sales. If you're interested in being a vendor or advertising with Little Britches please go here.
